Football fever drives hospitality innovation at Continental Hotels

As the FIFA World Cup 2026 takes centre stage globally, Continental Hotels Nigeria is leveraging the excitement of the tournament to create unique hospitality and tourism experiences in Lagos and Abuja, offering football fans much more than a place to watch matches.

For the duration of the tournament,  the hotel group will host a series of World Cup-themed events designed to combine sport, leisure, entertainment and gastronomy.

The initiative reflects a growing trend within Nigeria’s hospitality industry, where hotels are increasingly positioning themselves as destinations that offer memorable lifestyle experiences rather than simply accommodation.

At Abuja Continental, football lovers will be treated to an outdoor viewing experience at the hotel’s Pool Bar, which has been transformed into a vibrant fan zone.

The venue will feature a giant LED screen, allowing guests to follow every moment of the tournament in a relaxed atmosphere that combines the energy of football with premium hospitality.

Beyond the matches, the hotel has curated a range of food and beverage experiences to enhance visitors’ stay.

Guests can enjoy specially crafted cocktails, gourmet burgers and a selection of match-day snacks, while the “Suya by the Pool” experience offers a distinctly Nigerian twist with grilled delicacies served in a stylish poolside setting.

The hotel has also lined up entertainment programmes throughout the tournament.
Weekly Salsa Nights and themed beverage promotions are expected to create a lively social atmosphere, making the venue attractive not only to football enthusiasts but also to residents and visitors seeking leisure experiences in the nation’s capital.

One of the highlights of the programme is the Father’s Day Brunch scheduled for June 21. The event is designed to bring families together through a combination of football, dining and relaxation.

Guests will enjoy live cooking stations, gourmet dishes and a wide range of desserts in an environment that balances sophistication with family-friendly entertainment.

In Lagos, the World Cup experience takes on a different dimension.

Lagos Continental has created an indoor stadium-like atmosphere at its Sports Bar and Lounge, where giant screens and immersive sound systems will allow guests to enjoy the matches in comfort.

The hotel has further enriched the experience through a series of themed Sunday brunches at Ekaabo Restaurant.

Inspired by countries participating in the World Cup, the brunches will feature international cuisines and cultural flavours, offering guests an opportunity to explore global culinary traditions while following the tournament.

The programme begins with a World Cup Kick-Off Brunch and continues with themed events celebrating Mexican, Canadian and American cuisines before culminating in a grand finale brunch and closing celebration to coincide with the end of the tournament.

For travellers looking to extend their stay, Lagos Continental is offering special accommodation packages that combine comfort with entertainment.

The initiative targets both domestic tourists and staycation seekers who wish to enjoy a complete leisure experience without leaving the city.

To complement the football festivities, the hotel has introduced a variety of recreational attractions, including a mini football pitch, foosball, table tennis and other interactive games.

These activities are designed to keep guests engaged before and after matches while creating opportunities for social interaction among visitors.

Speaking on the initiative, Cluster Director of Sales and Marketing, Richard Mutanda, said the objective was to create an unforgettable destination for football lovers and travellers alike.

“We want to create an unparalleled destination for football fans to celebrate the World Cup. Our brand-new giant LED screens, combined with world-class hospitality, themed experiences and engaging activities, guarantee that whether you’re here for one match or the entire tournament, you’ll make memories that last a lifetime,” he said.

According to Mutanda, the World Cup provides an opportunity to showcase the best of Nigerian hospitality while bringing people together through a shared passion for football.

As football fever spreads across Nigeria, initiatives such as these demonstrate how hospitality operators are finding innovative ways to transform global sporting events into tourism opportunities.
